3 Things You Need To Succeed In Maintaining Awesome Health as Busy Professional

A disproportionate amount of wellbeing is placed on is on weight loss. As both a nutritionist and therapist who works directly with eating behaviour, many of my client base who are busy professionals, previous attempts at weight loss have been fraught with inconsistent eating patterns, fad diets and overtraining.

It does not need to be this difficult.

Developing a consistent and sustainable approach to your diet and training style is the best way to achieve and maintain better health. This is regardless of your workload and family life. Here are a few tips to help you get on track with bettering your health this year. They involve mindful eating, exercise, and following a protein-rich meal plan that will help you to put on muscle and reduce body fat – all contributing to awesome health.

1.     Create a Meal Plan, Start prepping

You don’t have to be a spectacular cook; all you need is a bit of imagination and the right ingredients. However, what you need to do is take some time out, even if you are a busy executive, to create a quick and effective meal plan for the week.

a) Choose meals that leave leftovers.

b) Cook recipes you know + 1 new recipe.

c) Pick recipes based on common ingredients.

d) Cook food you want to eat!

2.     Exercise

Our age, general health, diet and our busy lives often influence the type of exercise we do. This is where setting specific outcome goals within a clear program become more important. Choose movement that motivates you and makes you feel great about yourself! Generally, the benefit of moving your body in specific ways such as running, yoga, swimming, cycling, fast-paced walking or HIIT encourages the release of endorphins and the feel good neurotransmitter -serotonin, which work together to support a healthier and happier, mind and body. Exercise can be done indoors or outdoors. With a clear program, your fitness and nutrition is outlined and easier to follow, you can plan your week and you will see clearer results both physically and mentally.

3.     Build a Strong Team

Learning how to live healthier is done best when you are surrounded by people who want to see you become your best. Invest in a nutritionist to re-align your eating program with your health goals, a fitness training group, a group that follows ‘mindful eating’, or simply participating in health related blogs and forums, can connect you with other like-minded professionals, and provide support for healthy living. You can also recruit your other office colleagues to create a nutrition and fitness group and hold each other accountable to get the results required.

Share your goals with those in support circle. These are proven ways to set health goals and support you to achieve them. The advantages are:

  • Feeling motivated

  • Encouraged to show your progress

  • Not want to let yourself or your buddy/specialist/trainer down by quitting

  • Receiving moral support

  • Feel inspired by what others are doing with their meal prep, exercise and how this is working for them
